Historical black and white footage of Hopi Indians doing the Eagle Dance, than the same dance, but done in the late 1990s by the American Indian Dance Theatre. This dance was done by all Uto-Aztecan people of the Southwestern United States, like the Pueblo and Hopi people. We Paiutes are related to the Hopi and other Pueblo people through language, customs and culture. We share very similar creation stories and legends. We Paiutes also do a variation of the same Eagle Dance which I also added. In a lot of our dances we Native people imitated animals and things that surrounded us. We held them dear and honored them by imitating their movements in dance and song.

A good find!
Sincerely yours. Amselhupfer my Busard is now coming in my near.
We all need to know what they have never forgotten.
thanks
The Hopi’s have a ritual where they “hunt” their peyote buttons. They believe the peyote cactus contains a spirit/s that needs to be snuck up on and contained in the plant by shooting it with an arrow from a distance. When this is done they communicate their thanks with the cactus, like after a deer kill, and harvest it.

Thanks–it’s very nice to see the Eagle Dance tradition being carried forward.
Note the Video Response which documents the Family of the Pyramid Lake Paiutes carrying on the Eagle Dance tradition in Nixon Nevada.
Thank you so much for posting these beautiful videos of the powerful Eagle Dance. I notice that you put some of the description of the Paiute Eagle dance in the past tense– Aren’t these beliefs held anymore? I always feel sad when someone uses the past tense about a Native American culture.
But thanks again.
