I read a lot about people wanting to be a chef because they cook very well..
Yes this is true of me but I am not normal…
I am 29 Have been cooking since I was at the of of 6 y/o… I mostly have been my beginnings were w/ French and Fr. Canadian foods, my mother is Fr. I love to cook in Asian/Indian, but also very educated in Mexican, So. American,German, Moroccan and Greek, I learn on my own as well as being taught by native teachers.. Everyone has told me for years to become a chef, but the only way into a Rest. is waiter, I can’t I am horrible.
My situation – Well I have little to no Rest or proper culinary exp. What should be my first step..
PLEASE DO NOT SAY CULINARY SCHOOL…
That may happen down the line but I need to get into the field way before that is an issue.. I am aware that school is not a necessity but I may pursue that later just to add to my name..
I live in Houston so you can imagine most kitchen are full of Mex. immigrants that get paid little to nothing and also make the field competitive & hard to enter financially.

I’ve started working at a brand new restaurant but not many costumers are showing interest. The restaurant has been advertised on the local paper and we’ve done some street promotion… The food is great (Indian with live barbeque) and the prices are reasonable, the place is really funky and cosy. What do you think could improve the number of people coming in?

I am an accomplished amateur chef with an MBA. My thoughts are that I know business and can assess an industry. There are no Indian restuarants in my town. My town is small-ish; 100K people, a decent sized University, a small but growing ethnic food market. So..is this folly to entertain? Eveything I read about opening a restaurant says ” hard work! low pay! really hard!”. Well, that sounds like my life already. Why not have some fun too? I would love to hear people’s opinions.

                                       In short people should educate themselves,should not be ashamed to ask experts a question if in doubt,take investing as a business,should not take anything granted,should not be fearful and try to to fight out wnen in soup,timely decision can save hard earned money and lives.
