Indian Nuclear and Missile Tests A Shocking Reality

Tags: , , , , ,

The failed nuclear tests at Pokhran between 10th and 13th of May 1998 proved to be extreme blunder of the Indian History now. The impact and the set backs of these failed tests caused extreme frustration and unwilling changes in many plans which India was banking on since long.

The main motive of 1998 nuclear tests by India was to completely push Pakistan to back foot. India was all set to give a clear message to the world that it has achieved complete supremacy in the South Asian region due to its Military might and with a stockpile of effective Nuclear Weapons. A huge country with enormous economic growth and unmatchable power of Conventional and Nuclear weapons could have brought great influence to India in this region and probably a confirmed permanent seat in the UN Security Council. There were also false claims made by RAW and Military High ups of India which led the then Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee to had been completely convinced that Pakistan was unable to initiate its own nuclear test in fear of International reaction. But, the most hyped tests were not only proved to be failed but subsequent tests by Pakistan on 28thMay 1998 completely shut the beak of the Indian ostrich. India still curses the loss of huge edge it got before Pokhran tests in 1998 which not only changed the power scene of this region but also threw India into many doubts about its own nuclear capabilities. Intelligence inputs suggest that India is facing another blow due to its failed Missile program which is also creating big head ache for the Military high ups. India is now on an emergency plan with the help of Israel to restructure its Missile program which was previously based on Russian technology. The Missile program now needs a serious upgrading and revamping because of growing challenges in the region. It is also widely believed that among many factors which are believed to be like American pressure and the fear of lack of International support, the possible attack on Pakistan after 26/11 Mumbai terrorism were backed off only due to sorry report of Indian Nuclear capabilities and spineless Missile system. It is also believed that it was after 26/11 when the reports of failed tests of Pokhran came into reality otherwise it was an internal secret before. Following is the complete report appeared on famous Indian News website of Times of India which clearly shows the frustration and complete helplessness of the Indians on the grave matter of dud nuclear tests. Times of India – Srinivas Laxman, TNN 18 September 2009, 01:44am IST //MUMBAI: Eleven years after India tested nuclear bombs in the deserts of Pokhran, embarrassing details about the test fizzling out have exploded into a full blown controversy with top nuclear scientists on Thursday demanding that the government institute an inquiry to determine whether the test failed. Former nuclear czars said they were ashamed that information had been hidden. Three former nuclear leaders — M R Srinivasan, P K Iyengar and A N Prasad said in the wake of revelations by K Santhanam, project leader for Pokhran II, the government must order a peer review into the yield of the thermonuclear test of May 1998. Santhanam went public first on August 26, saying that the yield from the test was far lower than what prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government claimed. On Thursday, in a newspaper article he disclosed embarrassing details saying the test was a failure because the yield was only 25 kilotons, nearly half of what the scientists had then claimed. He said that a meeting of scientists discussed the failure soon after the test and decided to hide it. He also pointed out that the failure meant that India now did not possess a credible nuclear deterrent, indicating that warheads on India’s long-range missile could have far less punch than expected. R Chidambaram, former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission and the architect of the nuke tests; Anil Kakodkar, then director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and APJ Abdul Kalam who led the team from Defence Research and Development Organisation, have insisted the device operated according to its design specifications and the yield was 45 kilotons. At a meeting on September 5, the AEC dismissed the first statements made by Santhanam, saying through different types of analysis it was established that the yield of the thermonuclear test was 45 KT. Now, even scientists in Barc, the nation’s top nuclear weapon establishment, doubt the claim. While saying he was surprised by Santhanam’s article, M R Srinivasan, former AEC chairman, told TOI it was time for both Chidambaram and Kakodkar to clarify the situation. “In such circumstances I think a peer review is certainly warranted,” he said. At the same time he said he still stood by the official position and would support Chidambaram and Kakodkar regarding the yield of the thermonuclear test. “A lot of information has been published and is on record. So I have really no reason to disbelieve at this stage either Chidambaram or Kakodkar on this issue. However, because of the current controversy, I think the best recourse would be for both of them to clarify the position through a peer review,” he added. Former Barc director, A N Prasad, who has all along maintained that the thermonuclear test was anything but a success, said, “The painful fallout of this episode is that the credibility of the nuclear scientific community and the respectable name of Barc is being damaged by a few at the top.” In a direct attack on Kalam and Chidambaram, Prasad said: “If all that Santhanam has written is true, then people occupying high places have misled the country. If all the data about the thermonuclear test has been held by one man (Chidambaram), then how can it be scientifically contested or debated? He has kept it under wraps.” Stressing that there should be a probe by a committee constituted by the government, Prasad said that the team should comprise those having serious doubts about the yield of the test as well as experts who can include former nuclear scientists who have been raising their voices. “It should not consist of only yes men. It should consist of those who are knowledgeable, who have the capacity to investigate such a serious matter,” he said.“If this committee concludes that the thermonuclear test had completely failed then the government has played a major fraud on the people of this country,” he said. Asked if the AEC itself can investigate, he replied: “It has credibility, but no expertise.”Another former AEC chief, P K Iyengar said, “The government should undertake an active investigation immediately following the statements made by Santhanam in the article. I am feeling really ashamed.” Regarding a revelation in Santhanam’s article that the thermonuclear device had not yet been weaponised like the fission devices, he said: “How will they do it if they are doubtful about the yield? This itself is a clear indication that the test was not a complete success.”Both Iyengar and Prasad said the disclosures by Santhanam, that there was no disturbance to the shafts at ground zero, was also proof that the test was unsuccessful.// The above report is clear evidence that it can be possible that the actual yielded result of the tests could be lower than 25 KT, throwing Indian scientists into complete confusion and had badly shattered their confidence too. It is bad luck for the Indians that the report about the dud tests came at a point when India was all set to teach Pakistan a lesson of the lifetime after 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Amid all these circumstances the failure of Missile tests also aggravated the situation and made Indian Army think that in case of any serious confrontation between India and Pakistan, India would face unbelievable embarrassment if the Military would fail to hit the potential targets and loose the war heads too due to the crashing of Missiles in the middle of its approach or missing the targets completely. In the following report India clearly admits the failed cruise missile test //(AFP) –Jan 21, 2009 NEW DELHI (AFP) — A supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by Russia and India failed to hit its target in a test previously reported as successful, Indian military scientists said Wednesday. The Defence Research and Development Organisation, which Tuesday claimed the test of the BrahMos missile had been a “total success,” said the missile had flown only in the general direction of its target. “The missile performance was absolutely normal till the last phase, but it missed the target, though it maintained the direction,” BrahMos project chief Sivathanu Pillai told the Press Trust of India. The eight-metre (26-foot) missile weighs about three metric tonnes and can be launched from land, ships, submarines or aircraft, travelling at a speed of up to Mach 2.8. It has a range of 290 kilometres (180 miles) and is designed to carry a conventional warhead. The missile was fired from the Pokhran range in the western desert state of Rajasthan, bordering Pakistan, that was also the site of India’s nuclear tests in 1998.The Times of India newspaper Wednesday suggested the failure was a result of an attempt to configure the missile to carry a nuclear warhead. Pillai did not comment on the newspaper’s report but said his scientists were trying to debug the guidance system of a missile that had been tested 20 times in the past eight years.”A new software used for this mission will be revalidated through extensive simulations and a flight trial will be carried out in a month’s time to prove the augmented capabilities of the missile,” he said.India and Russia — its largest military supplier — hope to mass produce the BrahMos for export. Nuclear-armed India, the largest arms buyer among emerging countries, has already begun arming its navy and army with the BrahMos as a tactical battlefield weapons system. The missile is named after India’s Brahmaputra River and Russia’s Moskva River.// Further to complete shock to the Indians another Missile test this time of Agni II also failed miserably to break the bone of India’s hopes to claim itself to be self reliant in the missile technology. Times of IndiaTNN 24 November 2009, 12:28am IST //BALASORE: India’s nuclear-capable intermediate range Agni-II missile, test-fired for the first time after sunset on Monday, reportedly failed to get the desired results. The Army test-fired the surface-to-surface Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) from Wheeler’s Island,Bhadrak district, around 7.50pm.‘‘The liftoff and the first stage separation was smooth. But it faltered just before the second stage separation and behaved erratically, deviating from its coordinated path. Further analysis is on to ascertain the cause,’’ said a source. The entire trajectory of Monday’s trial was tracked by a battery of sophisticated radars, telemetry observation stations, electro-optic instruments and a naval ship. The launch, originally scheduled in the first week of this month, was deferred due to some technical snags in its pneumatic system. Though the snags were rectified, another glitch surfaced during Monday’s test, leading to the fiasco, the source claimed. The nuclear capable 2,000-km-plus range missile has a length of 20 meters, a diameter of one meter, weighs 17 tonnes and can carry a payload of around 1,000 kg. It was first tested on April 11, 1999. The test launch was significant from India’s strategic point of view because for the first time since the beginning of DRDO’s missile development programme, a missile was put under trial during night. The user trial was conducted by Army officials while scientists from DRDO were present to provide necessary logistical support // India after recent failures finds itself at a position where it can doubt its own capabilities to handle any nuclear assault either from China or from Pakistan in case of any future conflict in the region. India is now banking on the hopes that Israel would provide the technology of Jericho ground-to-ground missile system which may help India to substitute its garbage program of Cruise Missile and Multiple ranged Missiles which are definitely stuck in the intermediate stage and cannot be completely relied upon. The recent advancing relationship with USA is also helping India to shelve its own Missile technology and substitute it with already tested and dependable technology which America would offer to India to wipe out the sorrow of the failures on the technological front. The set backs after shameful failures in Nuclear and Missile technology left India with no choice but to look towards USA, Israel and Russia to provide their own tested Missiles and few Nuclear Weapons too to maintain its inventory with dependable and trusted Missiles and warheads. But to achieve that, India could be giving many concessions to these countries including access to the testing, production and storage sites of Nuclear weapons and Multiple ranged Missiles. Red Alert for Indian Nuclear Arsenal

Tags: , , ,

THE RED CORRIDOR which is now turning into RED ALERT for Indian sovereignty has been camouflaged by the Government of India so strongly since years to save the face in the world community. But now the cover is proving too short to hide this ugly reality.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Red_Corridor_ver_1.PNG

Naxals/Maoists issue is widely censored by the common Indians you interact in daily life, but the living reality says otherwise. Naxalite/Maoist insurgents are controlling more than 45% of India without any obstruction from the state anywhere in those regions. The police and paramilitary is too vulnerable to their deadly attacks due to lack of capability and fire power to confront these militants. The most dangerous reality is that the Militants are now in full control of those regions where there are located key Nuclear Installations or most convincingly the Nuclear Arsenal storage sites.

Talcher’s Heavy Water Plant

Starting from the state of Orissa at the eastern coast of India, where Maoists are showing much stronger presence. A very important Heavy Water Plant is located in the City of Talcher in this state. Since last many months this city is badly hurt due to repeated terrorist activities of Maoists and their supporters.

Maoists displayed their power most recently when they blocked the road access to Talcher making things to complete standstill inside that city and in the surrounding areas. Most ironic is that the presence of law enforcing agencies in these areas is very minimal and almost next to none. Local residents are living in extreme fear and in complete insecurity. In these circumstances, any serious accident to the Heavy Water Plant would lead to complete catastrophe.

It is ironic that besides being completely helpless against the growing influence of Maoist near this important nuclear site, Indian media is not alarming any warnings. It is clear that India is hiding this matter deliberately and does not want the world to know about the intensity of the threat.

Uranium mines & mills, Jaduguda, Jharkand

The important Uranium mines and mills in Jaduguda Jharkand are facing worst catastrophe of deadly leakages when a new tailings pipeline burst caused a uranium mill tailings spill that reached nearby homes. Ironically this incidence of International importance was camouflaged again by the Indian media. It is widely believed that this particular area is now under full control of Naxal/Moist forces.

Madras Atomic Power Station

Located at  Kalpakkam about 80 km south of Chennai, is a comprehensive nuclear power production, fuel reprocessing and waste treatment  facility that includes plutonium fuel fabrication for fast breeder reactiors [FBRs]. It is also India’s first fully indigenously constructed nuclear power station. It has two units of 170 MW capacity each. The first and second units of the station went critical in 1983 and 1985 respectively. The station has reactors housed in a reactor building with double shell containment ensuring total protection even in the remotest possibility of loss of coolant accident. An Interim Storage Facility [ISF] is also located in Kalpakkam

Naxal tentacles are reaching Chennai which as mentioned above has this important Power Plant, Naxal presence just few kilometers from this city is a living threat which no one can ignore so easily. The recent train mishap in Chennai is believed to be the activity of Naxals to signal their strong presence in this region too.

Narora nuclear power plant

Narora is located on the banks of river Ganges, in district Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh. A nuclear power plant is located in its vicinity. The insurgent sympathizers smuggle highly radioactive material out of the Nuclear Fuel Complex to detonate a radiological dispersion device or ‘dirty bomb’ in Hyderabad. In an example of security blunder that could have resulted in the theft of fissile material, in August 2006. Security was tightened in and around the Narora nuclear power plant after three men working there was arrested for giving fake addresses at the time of their appointments. Unbelievably, the men were given access to the facilities without first conducting thorough background checks. The problem is that India does not only have 22 declared including under construction  nuclear reactors, but it also has about 60 less secure agencies connected with nuclear activities. India is well known for lax security and overworked systems; security experts believe smuggling of radioactive materials to be highly probable.

There are several other regions where Naxal ideology is gaining popularity and more and more poor and homeless are becoming part of their Army. The Maoist/Naxals are too close to capture the half of India and consolidate their position for their future goals.

It is extremely ironic that India is yelling and screaming about the vulnerability of Pakistani Nukes, but it is more catastrophic when we see that many important locations of Indian Nuclear Installations are situated in those areas which are in complete control of these insurgents. Why this truth is hidden from the world attention? The catastrophe of weapons slipping into the hands of most cruel terrorists on earth is quite possible not in years but in days. The question arise that who will raise the alarm for the world? The world leaders are quite unmoved on this issue, but once we come to know that Naxals have obtained few of the war heads for their ugly means then it will become a global threat overnight and the sleeping savers of the world would jump for crash program! This is bad luck for the poor people of India in particular that their government has thrown them in front of Maoists/Naxals and has accepted an undeclared defeat against these forces.

From every corner of India sane and intellectual journalists and news channels are now beginning to raise their voice on this issue but it seems that water has reached the noses already.

When we analyze as to why India is not taking strong action against Maoists/Naxals then we can find few important reasons behind this criminal delay which is hurting Indian existence. India has till now portrayed itself as a safe and trouble free country thus gaining maximum attention of tourism and foreign investment which it does not want to loose due to this issue.

Next year a huge event of Cricket World Cup is to be staged in India and the Government does not want a situation in which the neighboring country Pakistan has fallen into after initiating assault over Taliban Militants which brought complete catastrophe and subsequent barring of all International sporting events to be staged there for security reasons. India does not want itself to be slipped into the same situation where Pakistan has been pointed out as an unsafe Nuclear Power. It is also believed that Americans are trying to penetrate into Nuclear Installations of India in the name of assistance or help to increase security level of these Installations. Some of them are almost 4 decades old and have completed their life. India is trying to hide the vulnerable status of their Nuclear command and control system to avoid undue interference of USA.

In short, Indian nation would have to bear the threat of Naxals/Maoists helplessly because in the near future Indian Government seems to have no plan but to unwillingly allow these terrorists to spread their influence inside the whole of the Indian territories.

USA, Great Brittan, France, China and Germany should see this latest development with clear responsibility because the threat of Maoist/Naxals is 1000 times more deadly than Tehreek e Taliban  Pakistan who are confined to only some remote mountain areas as compared to Naxals/Maoists who are controlling the cities and the huge region in full. World cannot afford to see the Nuclear Arsenal of India easily slipping into the hands of Naxals who can use that any time anywhere to surprise the peace loving nations. It is also possible that these insurgents who are so close to capture these important weapons would also sell them ahead to Al Qaeda or any deadly group which can hit America with unmatchable intensity as USA has put a blind eye on this possibility.

Indian Nuclear Arsenal Under Threat of Naxals

Tags: , , , , ,

All the world intellectuals until last few months thought that Pakistan’s Nuclear Arsenal would slip into the hands of Taliban or extremists Muslim group, but ignored that even bigger catastrophe is in the making. Maoist/Naxalite forces are gaining control of 35% of India.

In southern Bastar, the Maoists have declared the Chintainer area as their Dandekaran state’s capital.

Complete report is as under

Maoists’ aim: Seize power in Delhi
Our Roving Editor Man Mohan writes from Raipur

‘Red terror’ spots have begun to pop up in India’s capital and northern states’ forest and hilly areas.

It seems that the Maoists are interested in enlarging their area of influence outside the jungles of the ‘Red Corridor’ that runs from the Nepal border down to Andhra Pradesh.

Lately, they have begun targeting India’s seat of power – New Delhi – and many other cities by setting up urban bases with the aim to penetrate and influence policy makers, judiciary, media, civil liberty, human rights, cultural, Dalit, women and youth organisations.

Highly classified maps and reports of the Central intelligence agencies accessed by The Tribune depict that the Maoist/Naxalite-affected areas now include certain parts of the National Capital Region and adjoining states. At some places, they have been teaching how to fire guns and make bombs and land mines.

Seized documents of the CPI (Maoist) Politburo and Central Committee talk about the need to run a secret service, unleash psychological wars through effective networking of various friendly groups in the urban areas.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently described the Naxalite problem as ‘the single largest threat to India’.

According to a confidential report of the military intelligence, India’s 231 districts in 13 states, including three in the NCR, are now being targeted by the Maoist to achieve its ultimate aim – seize power in Delhi by 2050.

So far, it was believed that about 170 districts falling under the dreaded ‘Red Corridor’, also known as the Dandekaran Belt, are reeling under the Maoist terror.

In Chhattisgarh, Bastar’s dense jungles of bamboo, sal, teak, sheesam and high hills, valleys, streams, waterfalls and natural caves are considered to be the Maoists’ centre of gravity. Before splitting into three districts, Bastar was one of the largest districts in India, with an area of 39,114 sq km, greater than Kerala and some other countries like Belgium and Israel.

In southern Bastar, the Maoists have declared the Chintainer area as their Dandekaran state’s capital.

The ‘Red Corridor’ runs through the dense forest and tribal belt, from Nepal through Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and all the way to Andhra Pradesh and to the upper reaches of Maharashtra, and some parts of Karnataka.

Inside their corridor, the Naxalites run a parallel government and vow to continue their fight against the state – a full-fledged war they call ‘people’s struggle’.

All the Left-wing militant organisations, including the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) and the People’s War Group (PWG), after their merger are now operating under the flagship rebel party – CPI (Maoist).

The Maoist have come to be known as the Naxalism movement, which began as a small uprising of people in Naxalbari, West Bengal, decades ago. Today, their movement that follows Mao-tse-Tung’s socio-political ideology based on his thinking that ‘political power grows out of the barrel of a gun’ has become a big meance in various states.

Confidential Central intelligence inputs made available to all the Naxalite-affected states have issued an alert about the red rebels setting up ‘urban cells’ in certain pockets of sensitive places like New Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

In the NCR, sources revealed that the Maoists are trying to catch the young talent in universities and in economically poor districts. During the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan, the Maoists attempted to penetrate it.

So far, the urban units in Chhattisgarh’s capital, Raipur, and elsewhere like the NCR are not indulging in violence. “But who knows the urban Naxals may start firing guns like Jammu and Kashmir terrorists,” observed Chhattisgarh’s Director General of Police Vishwa Ranjan.

The Central intelligence reports have also issued a warning that the Maoists are now in the process of identifying ‘new operational areas’ across the country. They are keenly looking at industrial belts, where big corporate houses are planning to set up the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), an easy target to launch violent agitation.

A seized Maoist document reveals how the Naxals had made the scene hot in West Bengal’s Nandigram and Singur, where the Tatas wanted to set up the small car ‘Nano’ factory. The state police is currently busy in ‘reclaiming’ Lalgarh. Sources said the Maoists are now giving a priority to Mumbai-Surat road, where new industries are mushrooming.

“Not everyone in the urban network is a Maoist. There are genuine civil liberty activists, Gandhians, writers, poets, and journalists, members of many so-called human rights organisations, NGOs and artists who have inadvertently got linked to the Maoist network. Indeed, it is astonishing how they are not able to see the Maoists’ gruesome violence in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh,” said Ranjan.

The Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist) has published a secret red book ‘Strategy and Tactics of the Indian Revolution’, which is said to be the Naxals’ Bible. The book says: “The central task of the revolution is seizure of political power through protracted People’s war.”

Talking about supporting sub-national movements in India, the boook says: “Lakhs of enemy’s armed troops have been deployed since long in J&K and the north-eastern states. More and more nationalities may come into armed confrontation with the reactionary Indian state?, so it will be difficult for the Indian ruling classes to mobilise all their armed forces against our revolutionary war.” It further says the urban areas are one of the main sources which provide cadre and leadership having various types of capabilities essential for people’s war.

The issue of Maoist is more deadly and more serious than handful of Talibans Naxals/Maoists have taken complete control of a large territory and Indian Army is unable to confront them right now. Indian politicians though raise finger towards China but the main reason is surely the growing social injustice and wildly spreading poverty in many regions inside India.

World is closing its eyes from the issue as Maoists/Naxals are non Muslims. The world ignored the matter similarly when Khmer Rouge in Cambodia built the tower of human skulls to finally catch world’s attention.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_Rouge

This should be understood by the world that Maoists/Naxals are same type of communists breed like we saw in the case of Khmer Rouge when human blood was drained like water and catastrophe was unimaginable to many.

The power of Maoists is spreading and strengthening. Global awakening is too little and India is deliberately hiding this issue from the world’s eye just to paint itself as a safe nation. In clear facts, these blood thirsty groups have enormous power and Taliban have no comparison to their expertise, weaponry and man power and lot more.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naxalite

The alarming bells are slowly raising their volume, the question is who will hear that first??? Can America ignore this threat when Delhi comes under control of Maoists and Nuclear Arsenal would be distributed easily for billions of dollars to many terrorists groups around the world. Can America bear this security threat or have decided to ignore it!!. Can we say that American people are blind towards this bitter fact that this time the catastrophe would be even bigger than 9/11 as Maoists have strong relations with their Communist friends like North Korea which has become living enemy of USA? Can Mr. Obama be able to justify to his nation that he has ignored a threat which is enormously high than what he expects from Al Qaeda??

More importantly the lawlessness in Naxals Area and lack of Government Control can also help Al Qaeda to breed another indirect force to carry out their operations and inflict heavy loss to USA. Ignoring this visible threat would be a clear carelessness from the part of Obama Administration!!

World should watch the next threat closely. It’s Naxal/Maoist Communist’s threat!!!
