Directed by Mani Ratna (Mani Ratnam) stated that «Raavan» – A modern interpretation of the epic ancient Indian epic Ramayana. The film employed well-known actors such as Abhishek Bachchan (Abhishek Bachchan) and the South Indian film star Vikram (Vikram), and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays in two versions, the film – in Hindi and Tamil.

Shooting began in the southern part of Tumkur at the end of October 2008. The battle between the good and the evil, between Dev and Beera, between Ram and Raavan. When the lines dividing the good and the evil starts to blur, whose side will you take? When hate turns to love and good starts looking as evil which side will you battle for. Love is a battle that nobody wins but everyone must fight for.

Mani Ratnam has reportedly shot a film that is a modern day version and a loose adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana  in which the wife of Lord Rama, Sita was abducted by the demon king of Lanka, Ravana and said that Raavan will have a new twist on the Ramayana

It is simultaneously being made in Tamil as Raavanan with a slightly different cast, which would also be dubbed into Telugu and other regional languages. The film score and soundtrack is composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman.  The film is expected to be released on 18 June 2010.

This is a film about good and evil, of Rama and Raavane, about the eternal human struggle. What comes out in the movie win, good or evil? Depends on how the viewer characterizes good and evil.

Each person is unique, and in each there is both good and evil. And what he chooses depends on his own.

Bipasha Basu was first elected to play Mandodari, Ravana’s wife in the movie Raavana, but was later abandoned. It is rumored that Aishwarya Rai was there behind her sudden the movie.

Now being Talant was due to the great star cast of the film was not chosen to interpret the character. There are movies that had Aishwarya Rai as Sita, the South superstar Vikram as Ram, Abhishek Bachhan as Raavan, National winner Priya Mani as Shoorpankha and Govinda as Hanuman. However, rumors in the newspapers and the magazine went on to say that Ash was behind existing Bipasha. But such gossip can not be true Bipasha is already in circulation Dum Maro Dum against Abhishek and get along very well. It seems that the rumors are unfounded.

Basically RAAVAN is a modern day adaption based story which is about the great indian epic Ramyana (which is the kind of holy book of Hindus) and this movie has very big names like Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram in the lead roles while Govinda, Ravi Kishan, Nikhil Dwivedi, Tejaswini Kolhapure and Priyamani. The story writer and director is Mani Ratnam.

More About Raavan Movie: It has been simultaneously made in Tamil as RAAVANAN with a slightly different cast. Vikram, who plays Dev in Hindi version, plays Veera, a Naxalite leader (Ravana) in Tamil version, whereas Prithviraj plays a Police officer. Abhishek Bachchan is there only in Hindi version; however Aishwarya Rai is there in both the versions. The film is also dubbed into Telugu and other regional languages. Mani Ratnam has approached the story from the perspective of Veera (RAAVAN). The music and lyrics of the movie are done by Oscar winners A. R. Rahman & Gulzar. The audio rights are with T-Series. RAAVAN, which hits the screens in June 2010, is jointly distributed by Madras Talkies and Big Pictures. Dev falls in love with Ragini, a spunky classical dancer who is as unconventional as him. They get married and he takes up his new post in Lal Maati, a small town in northern India. A town where the word of law is not the police but Beera, a tribal who has, over the years, shifted the power equation of the place from the ruling to the have-nots of the area. Dev knows, that the key to bringing order to any place is to vanquish the big fish; in this case- Beera. In one stroke Dev manages to rip open Beera’s world, and set in motion a chain of events which will claim lives, change fortunes. Beera, injured but enraged hits back starting a battle that draws Dev, Beera and Ragini into the jungle. The jungle which is dense, confusing, scary. And in this journey they must comfort their own truth. A journey which will test their beliefs, convictions and emotions. Emotions, which are as scary and confusing as the forest. The forest becomes the battleground. The battle between good and evil, between Dev, and Beera, between Ram and Raavan. Mani Ratnam has reportedly shot a film that is a modern day version and a loose adaptation of the great Indian epic Ramayana which tells the story of Rama, whose wife Sita is abducted by the demon (Rākshasa) king of Lanka, Ravana. It is said that Raavan will have a new twist on the Ramayana.[5] Mani Ratnam had earlier directed Thalapathi, which bore close resemblance to the Mahabharata. While everyone thinks that Abhishek Bachchan plays a character based on Raavana in Mani Ratnam’s Raavana, the film’s most wellkept secret is out. Abhishek’s character in the forthcoming film is not only based on the life of Raavana but also on Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy. Our source said, “Mani Ratnam loves having a strong element of contemporary history in his films. Be it Nayakan based on don Vardha Rajan’s life, Guru based on Dhirubhai Ambani’s life or Bombay which depicted the Hindu-Muslim riots in Mumbai after the Babri Masjid demolition. Even in Roja, Dil Se and Yuva, Mani dealt with serious issues such as terrorism in Kashmir, a woman suicide bomber and college politics respectively. While there is a buzz about Raavana being inspired from the Ramayana and that Abhishek is playing Raavana, fact is that the real inspiration for Abhishek’s character came from Kobad Ghandy.” Mani had appointed a team of researchers to get as much data available about Kobad Ghandy as he wanted Abhishek’s character to be strikingly similar to the Maoist leader. “In Raavana Abhishek plays Veera, a naxalite leader of the downtrodden villagers in eastern Madhya Pradesh. Just like Ghandy’s Communist party India-Maoist is banned, Abhishek’s organisation is also banned in the film,” added the source. “Abhishek’s character in Raavana is very intelligent. Ghandy was assigned the task to win over the middle class and intellectual society in Karnataka and Kerala as the Maoists thought that he could do this with ease. The major difference between the two characters is that while Ghandy is an educated man, Abhishek’s character is from a small and remote village from Eastern MP. In short, the story of the Ramayana is very nicely and intelligently woven into the story of Kobad Ghandy,” said the source.

Raavan battle
New Delhi, June 18 (PTI): Raavan has just conquered an evil, with some help from a free-market watchdog. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has directed the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce not to prevent theatres from showing the Abhishek-Aishwarya starrer.
