Europe’s chief negotiator at the COP16 talks, EU Commissioner Connie Hedegaard, on global warming at work, late Friday in Cancun, Mexico, in the final hours of the conference. Footage made available by the EU. One year ago in Copenhagen the COP15 global talks on climate change ended in disarray, with sharp divisions between developing and developed countries. This time around, at the 16th Conference of the Parties, the COP16 talks in Cancun Mexico, there was applause as the meeting ended on Saturday, even though the countries of the world did not manage to adopt a binding climate treaty amid a stalemate among the US, China and the European Union. The nations did agree on a package of climate initiatives, including billions of dollars in funding for poor countries. Developing countries are to come up with plans to cut their emissions in a worldwide effort to limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The agreement includes plans for a green fund and $100 billion a year. This will be funded by rich countries to help poor nations finance programs to cut emissions by 2020, and to cope with drought and other effects of global warming.
www.youtube.com I put together a video for my song on global warming, sorry about the crappy audio, had only a computer mic to use.. here are the lyrics again.. People living in the free world Place your hands out and just feel the cold However we try to just deny it The world aint ever gonna hide it We cant deny the feeling We just cant sit back and start smiling The world aint ever going to be the same Unless we try and just beat this game Time is not going to wait We need to love and stop the hate Save the world, Cmon get up and get it started. So many floods and wild fires Getting stronger and much higher However we try to deny it The world aint ever gonna hide it We cant deny the feeling We just cant sit back and start smiling Its not too late to start and make a change Put your mind to it and play the game Time is not going to wait We need to love and stop the hate Save the world, Cmon get up and get it started.
Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for climate action, on Saturday said that the deal reached at the COP16 global climate talks in Cancun, Mexico, was largely inspired by the fear of failure in the wake of the COP15 talks in Copenhagen a year earlier. “I’m A Climate Scientist,” The Raunchy Climate Change Video
Sick of hearing that climate change doesn’t exist from people who haven’t studied the matter, climate scientists get together to fix the problem the only way they know how: hip-hop. There is nothing more amusing than incongruous people rapping (Andy Samberg has built a career on this notion), and there is perhaps no more incongruous rappers than Australian academics. That’s why this video of …

Some things we take for granted, like a predictable climate and a temperate earth. Oops. Our carbon emissions are fundamentally changing that climate — faster and more radically than we imagined. Humanity now has an unprecedented choice. Do we deny, ignore and selfishly delay until it’s too late? Or do we rise to the challenge? To reduce carbon emissions, we must demand substantive political action. We must vote climate as a top priority.
